Super Obesity Surgery Cost
New research on Super Obesity Surgery Cost indicates that super obese veterans and those patients who do have increased levels of chronic disease are a good deal more likely to die within a year of having a bariatric surgical procedure. This is in accordance to an article entitled, Predictors of Long-term Mortality After Bariatric Surgery Performed in Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, found in the Archives of Surgery, a magazine of JAMA this year.
According to the latest study, the patients who have class three obesity, also identified as “super obesity”, are far more likely to die within a year of weight loss surgery. Super obesity is defined as anybody having a Body mass index (BMI) of over 40 or greater.
The drawback with past studies with regard to bariatric surgery was the fact that most of the studies was done on youthful women undergoing those procedures. Their bodies were more fit to take the surgery with a very low occurrence of morbidity. Conversely, this research demonstrates that for an older research set involving males showed that mortality rate was greatly higher within one year of the surgery.

Overall, a total of 54 out of the 856 individuals (or 6.3%) died within one year of weight-loss surgery. In the comparison of the data between the super obese and individuals who had a generally higher comorbidity score (indicating more chronic disease), it was demonstrated that there was a higher rate of loss of life in those with chronic illness. Nonetheless, the rates for both groups were higher than those of previous medical studies not relating to the super obese or older men.
The authors of the study gave a few thoughts into the reason they believe that the death rates may be elevated in the super obese.
